Stanford's Rodgers falls at U.S. Amateur

BROOKLINE, Mass. — The Bay Area hopes of a U.S. Amateur title came to an end Thursday.

Patrick Rodgers of Stanford was ousted by Corey Conners of Canada 5 and 3 in the third round of match play at The Country Club. Rodgers, who will represent the U.S. in the Walker Cup — the amateur version of the Ryder Cup — this year, advanced to the round of 16 with a 3 and 2 victory over Greg Eason of England.

The only other Bay Area golfer still alive going into Thursday's action was Brandon Hagy of Cal. But Hagy fell in the round of 32 to Scottie Scheffler of Dallas in a dramatic 20-hole match.
