South SF police search for owner of Japanese pistols recovered from felon

South San Francisco police are searching for the owner of three collectable Japanese pistols recovered last week from a transient felon.

On July 20 police responded to a report of a man with a gun in the 200 block of Kenwood Way. When officers arrived, they found John Frick, a 49-year-old transient and convicted felon, in possession of the three pistols.

Frick was arrested for being a felon in possession of a firearm, according to police. He was booked into the McGuire Correctional Facility on $50,000 bail.

Officers discovered a receipt for the pistols from the late 1990s that provided the owner's information, but further investigation revealed the owner had died in 2000.

Police have been unable to find the current owner of the Japanese pistols. Anyone who has lost collectable pistols in a theft is urgerd to contact Detective Pinell of the South San Francisco Police Department at 650-877-5991.
