Sister city gets typhoon help

The Sister Cities Committee donated $1,000 toward relief efforts to Pasig, Philippines, which was struck by the Ketsana typhoon Sept. 26.

The committee is currently gathering supplies to send to Pasig and the South San Francisco Unified School District has approved the use of its schools as collection sites. Students have been asked to bring donations for the boxes. LBC, an international shipping company, has offered to ship the boxes to the Philippines for free, according to city officials, if they are delivered by Saturday.

Clothes, shoes, towels and blankets are among the nonperishable items in demand. For the general public, South City has established a collection box at the South San Francisco Corp. Yard, 550 N. Canal St.
