A 48-year-old man was shot in a Bayview district park Tuesday following an apparent argument over drugs, police said.
The shooting was reported about 7:15 p.m. in a small park with a children’s playground at Palou Avenue and Phelps Street. It was not immediately clear whether anyone besides the suspect and victim were in the park at the time of the shooting.
The two argued about drugs, Officer Albie Esparza said, but investigators did not offer details about a possible motive.
The victim suffered gunshot wounds to the buttocks, leg and hand, police said. He was treated at San Francisco General Hospital and is expected to survive.
The shooter, a man who has not been identified, fled in a red two-door car along with a woman, Esparza said. But they did not go far: Police found the vehicle parked in the area of Oakdale Avenue and Quint Street, just around the block, Esparza said.
Officers arrested Lakendra Veshay, 25, of San Francisco, but the man who investigators believe was the shooter fled before police arrived, Esparza said.
Veshay was booked on attempted murder and weapons charges, along with an outstanding warrant, according to police.
“The officers recovered a firearm from the vehicle,” Esparza said.
Investigators said while Veshay allegedly conspired in the crime she did not fire a weapon. Police have not named the shooter but reportedly know his identity.
Anyone with information that would help police track down the suspect is encouraged to call police, Esparza said.
