No one saw the "Sharknado" coming, but there in lies the beauty of a twisty avalanche of sharks that prey on the innocent.
The SyFy channel movie about a rash of tornados that dump man-eating sharks on hapless citizens has become a social media sensation. Patton Oswalt, Mia Farrow, Olivia Wilde and other stars tweeted their way through the B-movie that nevertheless garnered pretty low ratings overall, according to the New York Daily News.
However, in the age of Twitter and other social media, a movie like this can gain a second life after enough key people dig it. Twitter reports that as many as 5,000 tweets a minute were appearing during the broadcast, twice as much as the highest tweet-fest up till then, the "Game of Thrones" episode "Red Wedding."
"Sharknado" re-airs Thursday.
