The first attack occurred Nov. 18 at 24th and Portrero streets, cops said. In that attack, the deviant reportedly began following the victim on South Van Ness Avenue around 3 a.m., police said.

When she got to Potrero Street he demanded cash. The victim didn’t have any money. The suspect then grabbed and brought her to a nearby location and sexually assaulted her, cops said. He fled the scene on foot toward 25th and Alabama streets.

The second attack happened three weeks later on Dec. 8 at 24th and Fair Oaks streets around 6:15 a.m., according to police. The manner of the attack closely resembled the November attack. She was also assaulted and robbed.

The suspect is described as a black man in his mid-30s, between 5 foot 9 and 6 foot, with a medium build and wearing a black hoodie and dark pants.

A community meeting was held Wednesday at St. James Catholic Church so Mission-area neighbors and residents could discuss the incidents with police. Police announced a $25,000 reward for information on the suspect during the meeting.

Arie Jongejan, a friend of the second victim, spoke at the meeting. He said his friend was walking to the 24th Street BART station when she was attacked. She had intended to get a workout in before work, Jongejan said. Many of the people who attended the meeting signed a card for the two victims.

“She’s healing quickly, which is a win, but psychologically it’s going to be a long and difficult healing process,” Jongejan said at the meeting, according to neighborhood blog Mission Local.
