S.F. Police Blotter: Neighborhood Crime Log 

These are excerpts from the San Francisco Police Department’s daily log of activities. Incidents are listed by police precincts and the neighborhoods they patrol.

Central

Financial District, Nob Hill, Chinatown, North Beach, Russian Hill, Telegraph Hill

Achtung, tourists! At 8:20 p.m. July 10, a woman was riding the Muni F line at Lombard and Battery streets when another passenger took her wallet. The woman grabbed the man and yelled "Thief!" The suspect fled but the German tourist victim was undeterred and chased the suspect off the streetcar and onto the Embarcadero. Another passenger aided by chasing the suspect until he dropped the wallet. Officers detained a suspect matching the description.

Richmond

Richmond, most of Golden Gate Park

Repeat offender: At 3:55 p.m. July 8, plainclothesmen in Golden Gate Park observed a suspect looking into the window of a parked vehicle. The officers knew this suspect since they had arrested him numerous times for auto burglary in the same area. The suspect attempted to hide when he was taken into custody. He was in possession of a screwdriver, which he admitted to using to break into cars; he was charged with possession of burglary tools.

Taraval

Sunset, Parkside, portions of Golden Gate Park

Detergent, fabric softener, knife: At 5:02 a.m. July 13 on the 400 block of Judah, an officer responded to a laundromat on a complaint by the owner that there was a man sleeping inside. The sergeant confronted the man, but he was physically uncooperative. A search revealed that the resident of the 1400 block of 23rd Avenue was carrying a concealed knife. He was cited.

Bayview

Bayview, Hunters Point

Don’t drive angry: At 8:45 p.m. July 12 in the 800 block of Terry Francois Street, officers responded to a report of a hit-and-run injury. The victims stated that they did not need medical attention but that they had been in an argument with the suspect. The suspect got into his car, reversed out of the parking lot at a high rate of speed and attempted to run over the two victims. While the victims were talking to police, the suspect walked back to the area and was placed under arrest.

Mission

Mission district, Noe Valley

Technology works: On July 2, a recovered stolen vehicle and possession of methamphetamine occurred at Alabama and 18th streets. The vehicle was located using SFPD’s new vehicle-mounted license-plate identification system, which alerted officers of the stolen vehicle.
