SF man swept into sea on Sonoma Coast 

The Sonoma County coroner's office has identified a fisherman who fell off a rock and was swept out to sea in Salt Point State Beach on Saturday as 55-year-old Chin Shaun Tom of San Francisco.

An autopsy was scheduled for Monday.

A friend who was with Tom drove to Fort Ross State Park nine miles away from Horseshoe Cove to report the incident, and the Sonoma County Sheriff's Office's helicopter responded around 2 p.m.

The helicopter crew spotted Tom's body face-down in the ocean about 100 yards off the shore of Horseshoe Cove. Tom was fully clothed and wearing a backpack. He had been in the water about an hour, the sheriff's office said. He was pronounced dead at 2:27 p.m.

The helicopter returned to the area about a half-hour later for Tom's friend, who was "displaying an altered level of consciousness and signs of medical distress", the sheriff's office said.
