Founded in 1870, the library is relocating from a temporary space at the War Memorial Veterans building at 401 Van Ness Ave. that is closed for seismic retrofitting work expected to be completed sometime in 2015.
The new facility at 1145 Market St. was made possible through a five-year lease between The City and the property owner. The site offers better lighting and seating with conference and seminar rooms, a library representative said.
The location sits between Seventh and Eighth streets and is accessible by BART and Muni.
“We are pleased to be back open and offering legal information and research services to the public, law students, solo practitioners and small- to medium-sized firms,” Law Library Board President Kurt Melchior said in a statement.
