September 27 - 29: Weekend events in SF

On the town

Three authors: Mystery novelists Lisa Brackman ("The Hour of the Rat"), Cara Black ("Murder Below Montparnasse") and Tim Hallinan ("The Fame Thief") present their latest books. [6 p.m., Book Passage, 1 Ferry Building, S.F.]

A great paddle

Center of attention: Ahhh, Central Park in fall — paddleboats, barbecue pits, Frisbee and folks in 49ers gear. Yeah, we're not talking New York City. This Central Park is in Fremont, an expansive place to hang out on the weekend. Lounge on the grass, snag a picnic table or walk around Lake Elizabeth (a 2-mile paved path circles the shore). For the full lake effect, get out on it. The visitor center rents paddleboats, kayaks and stand-up paddleboards until the end of September.
