Seizure interrupts would-be Muni thief's robbery attempt

This Muni robbery was a shock – especially for the crook. A man who robbed a woman at knifepoint on the K-Ingleside line Tuesday afternoon suffered a seizure after a witness confronted him, police said.

The 39-year-old suspect robbed the 20-year-old woman he was sitting next to around 2:15 p.m. He brandished a knife and demanded her belongings as the light rail vehicle reached Ocean Avenue and Phelan Street, police said.

The woman complied and handed over her cellphone, cash and driver’s license, police said.

A witness who overhead the thief’s demands confronted him. The suspect suffered a seizure, police said.

Responding police made the arrest and had the suspect transported to San Francisco General Hospital.

The woman’s stolen items were recovered, police said.

Police spokesman Lt. Troy Dangerfield said further details about the robbery, including the identity of the suspect, will not be released because the suspect suffers mental health issues.
