San Francisco police are investigating a shooting that wounded one man and brought traffic in downtown to a standstill when the victim’s car stopped in the Financial District.
Police say a man in his 30s who was riding in a car when he was shot in the torso just after 3:35 p.m. near the intersection of Bryant Street and The Embarcadero.
The driver of the car, who was not wounded in the shooting, reportedly drove around looking for a hospital. He eventually flagged down a parking control officer and Mission and Main streets, asking for directions to a hospital, police said. The continued driving to Market and Davis streets, police said.
The victim was taken to San Francisco General Hospital.
Market Street was cordoned off for the investigation. Muni spokesman Paul Rose said service was being rerouted around the area.
