At MTV’s Video Music Awards on Sunday night, host Chelsea Handler’s worst fear — that celebs would be well-behaved instead of outrageous — came to pass. Yeah, Lady Gaga’s meat dress was mondo bizarro, but did anyone expect anything different from her?
However, behind the scenes things were apparently a lot more interesting. Taylor Swift and Kanye West, who both performed songs alluding to their onstage confrontation last year, reportedly had a secret backstage powwow in the country singer’s dressing room.
“Kanye got word she was going to do the song about him and wanted to talk it out,” an insider told Us magazine.
“Taylor felt bad. They talked and everything is good between them now,” the source said. “But, they promised to keep what they spoke about between them.”
Hopefully she didn’t read him any of the patronizing lyrics to the song she later performed about him. Maybe it’s just us, but something struck us as way off about a 20-year-old singing “32 and still growing up now ... You’re still an innocent.”
Is Justin Bieber headed for a breakdown? The teen phenom may have turned in a high-energy debut performance at the VMAs, but the pressure of his sudden fame is allegedly forcing him to push himself too far.
Reportedly, the underage heartthrob has lost 10 pounds and his health is suffering because of his hectic schedule, National Enquirer reported.
“Justin is being pulled in every direction possible, and he seems to be on the brink of a complete nervous breakdown,” an insider told the tabloid. “The stress is phenomenal ... and at one point the poor kid collapsed with exhaustion. If he’s not careful, success is going to destroy him.”
The baby-faced “Baby” singer was forced to cancel an August performance due to illness.
“Justin puts on a brave front for the cameras, but he’s still weak, and doctors insist that he rest more or else he risks another collapse,” the source said. “But, he can’t — or won’t — because he doesn’t want to disappoint his mom, his manager or his fans.”
If this is true, let’s hope Lindsay Lohan had a chat with Justin backstage at the VMAs. She might be able to tell him how this story ends.
Most likely, if someone offered you a $12 million deal — for just about anything — you wouldn’t push for more. But, most likely, you are not Jennifer Lopez. (If you are — hey, what’s up, J.Lo! Call me!) The diva is said to have asked for an even sweeter arrangement when negotiating her contract to be an “American Idol” judge.
According to Radar Online, the singer-actress’s camp not only sought $15 million a year from “AI” brass for the honor of her presence, they wanted some serious perks — including for Fox to guarantee her a movie role.
“She was angling for an overall deal at Fox, including a put picture, to keep the movie career going. But, Fox said, ‘No,’” an insider said. “In the old days, these were called a ‘vanity deal’ for good reason. They simply don’t exist today.”
“I think it was just positioning,” a source said. “In the end, she didn’t turn up her nose at $12 million. I would have been very surprised if she had walked away.
“She lives very, very well. It comes at a cost.”
That cost isn’t covered by her movie and music royalties, sales of her fashion lines and proceeds from her fragrances? Wow. Maybe all those rumors about J.Lo demanding 4 zillion thread-count sheets and white orchids everywhere aren’t so far off.
