In utterly predictable news, Lindsay Lohan was ordered by a judge Monday to abstain from drinking or drugs (we kind of thought everyone was legally supposed to abstain from drugs, but whatever) and fitted with an accessory you can’t get at Kitson — an alcohol-monitoring ankle bracelet.
The beleaguered starlet also has to submit to random drug testing and attend alcohol-education classes every week.
Had she not skipped a few of those classes — and then lost her passport in France before a scheduled hearing to review her progress — she probably could have gone on doing, well, whatever she was doing at nightclubs every night.
As it is, she could be thrown in jail for violating her probation.
A July 6 hearing was set to determine whether LiLo has complied with the terms of her probation. If she misses her classes, she faces 180 days in jail, TMZ reported.
Her attorney tried unsuccessfully to convince the judge that the ankle bracelet would “interfere with her work” on an upcoming film shoot in Texas and that she should be allowed to complete her remaining classes back to back.
In what could be the final blow to the former It girl’s acting career, the judge decreed, “She needs to submit to random drug testing here, not in Texas. I’m afraid she’s going to have to delay [filming] for now.”
So far, it doesn’t look like the judge’s tough love has taught LiLo anything. She insisted in an interview prior to the court appearance, “I don’t see what reason I would go to prison for. I’ve been more than compliant with everything having to do with the court system.”
The death of Brittany Murphy was sudden and shocking — and the death of her widower, Simon Monjack, just five months later was like an eerie aftershock. The sometime screenwriter was pronounced dead Sunday night, the L.A. County Coroner’s Office said.
The 39-year-old’s body was found by the late actress’s mother, Sharon Murphy, who had continued to cohabit with Simon after her daughter’s death.
“It’s being reported [by the responding Fire Department] as a possible heart attack,” a Coroner’s Office staffer told People magazine. “We’re not sure if it is natural causes or a possible accident maybe because of the prescription medication found there.”
Condolences to Sharon and to Simon’s loved ones.
Hip-hop mogul Russell Simmons proves that brains (OK, and maybe bankroll) are more important than looks when it comes to landing lovely ladies. The former hubby of Kimora Lee Simmons is now seeing another supermodel, blond Aussie beauty Sophie Monk.
Though they’ve been a rumored item since August, the duo made it official last week by walking the red carpet together at Maxim’s Hot 100 party.
Congrats, you two!
