Carrie Underwood is learning that last one the hard way. “The hills are alive with the sound of angry ‘Sound of Music’ fans,” writes the New York Daily News, which cites myriad Twitter posts that are slamming the country singer for daring to replace Julie Andrews.
“I get hate tweets,” she says. “I know I’m not Julie. Nobody is and I would never pretend that I was ... I know my place.”
Somehow her co-star, “True Blood” vampire Stephen Moyer, is getting a pass for replacing Christopher Plummer as Captain Von Trapp. Andrews has publicly supported Underwood in the role, calming the villagers in the hopes that they will let down their pitchforks.
“I think she’s great,” Andrews said. “After 40 or 50 years, it’s probably time somebody else had a crack at it.”
