What caused Brittany Murphy’s sudden and shocking death at age 32? Authorities initially determined that the actress died of natural causes. But as an autopsy was conducted Monday, TMZ reported that she was ill and vomiting before her death, and had been taking prescription drugs for her illness. An LAPD source told Radar Online the investigation was “focusing on possible overdose scenarios including looking at prescription medicines.”
“There were a lot ... a lot of prescriptions in the house” — for Brittany as well as husband Simon Monjack and her mother, Sharon, one TMZ source said.
Brittany’s mother said she was diabetic, but sources reportedly don’t believe that was a factor in her death.
Recently, Brittany had parted ways with the movie production she was working on — she vigorously denied reports she was fired — and was the subject of rumors about erratic behavior.
A source on the set of a recent indie film told an entertainment Web site that Brittany would “go in and out of consciousness in the middle of takes.” Added the insider, “Her husband was her handler, he shuttled her around. She was barely there.”
Simon, her husband since 2007, was “literally in a daze” and looked “like he didn’t know what was going on” as paramedics unsuccessfully attempted to revive the “8 Mile” star Sunday morning, a neighbor told Us magazine. According to TMZ, Simon was against performing an autopsy, but the coroner’s office made the decision.
Long before recent troubles, Brittany Murphy had battled “inner demons,” sources close to the late “Clueless” star revealed to People magazine. A few years ago, one film set insider said, “She was unfocused and never knew her lines. She wouldn’t do the same take, the same way, twice. … There were accusations of drug use. She and her mom said they weren’t true. Brittany said, ‘Everyone was saying I’m doing drugs and I’m not.’”
The actress, who had transformed her body with a dramatic weight loss, had long denied allegations of drug use and an eating disorder.
Though she insisted she was comfortable with her body, “she had insane self-image issues,” a friend said. “Her weight, her hair, her clothes, her skin, her teeth, everything. She was always so self-conscious.”
“A lot of her problems were due to poor self-image,” another seconded. “She wore extraordinary amounts of makeup, tons of fake eyelashes, got her teeth capped, dyed her hair blond, lost weight — she wanted to be a beauty. She didn’t want to be the fat girl from ‘Clueless.’ She didn’t eat a lot. She would drink copious amounts of coffee.”
“She was drastically different when she entered the business,” another friend said. “Full of life, determined. But over the past few years, [she went] downhill. There was always something off, something in the way. She had a lot of inner demons.” So sad.
Could Kourtney Kardashian be wrong about who is the father of her newborn son? Though she reconciled with on-off beau Scott Disick after learning she was pregnant, the reality star had reportedly also been seeing a model named Michael Girgenti, who has now emerged to say he might be the dad, according to Star magazine.
“Kourtney hooked up with Michael twice while she and Scott were on the outs,” a friend explained. “He’s definitely been mentioned as a possibility for being the father of her baby.”
Asked by Star whether he might be the baby daddy, Michael answered, “You could say that, yeah.”
It should be noted that this dude is described as a “model and aspiring rapper, who goes by the stage name of Premo Stallone.” So as much as we might wish that Scott wasn’t a permanent part of Kourtney’s life, we’re thinking “Premo” here just wants some press.
