Scammers posing as PG&E employees

A scam involving crooks posing as PG&E employees seeking payments from customers has occurred at least twice recently in The City, police said.

On Oct. 28, the owner of a Union Square restaurant was duped over the phone into believing an automatic payment for her gas bill had been declined. She was instructed to pay using two $500 Green Dot MoneyPak cards purchased at a Walgreens store.

Last week, the owner of a doughnut shop in the Tenderloin reportedly fell victim to an imposter PG&E employee.
