San Mateo police seek jewelry thief’s ID

San Mateo police are asking for the public's help in identifying a burglary suspect who absconded with tens of thousands of dollars worth of jewelry.

On April 11, some time between 11:30 a.m. and 10 p.m., more than $50,000 worth of jewelry and rare coins was stolen from a residence in the 1200 block of Quince Street in San Mateo, police said. The jewelry and coins were sold to a jewelry store in San Jose the following day about 2:15 p.m. The store was in the 1100 block of East Santa Clara Street.

The man who sold the stolen items was described as a Hispanic man in his 30s with a stocky build. He left the store on a black sports-style motorcycle with no rear license plate, police said.
