San Mateo County DUI checkpoints net 28 arrests

Authorities in San Mateo County said at least 28 people were arrested this past weekend on suspicion of drugged or drunken driving - the same number of motorists who were arrested during the same enforcement period last year.

The arrests were part of a special Avoid the 23 enforcement effort that took place starting midnight Friday until midnight Saturday.

Some county agencies have not yet reported the results of their enforcement efforts, so the total number of arrests during this period could change, Daly City police officials said.

There had not been any DUI-related crashes reported in the county as of Sunday morning, police reported.

Extra DUI patrols were deployed Sunday night in Atherton and Daly City, according to Daly City police.
