San Francisco's Lunar New Year celebrations kick off

The Year of the Horse began with a bang on Friday as the year of the snake slithered to an end. This year's celebrations were kicked off with a parade including the SFPD Lion Team and the Chinese Youth Center 200-foot golden dragon carving their way up Kearney from Clay and ending up in front of the Hilton where the celebrations climaxed with a stream of fireworks suspended from the pedestrian bridge lit by San Francisco's Mayor Ed Lee and former supervisor and now San Francisco City Assessor Carmen Chu. The horse is part of a 12-year cycle of animals that make up the Chinese zodiac.
