Two iconic San Francisco concert halls are abandoning Ticketmaster for a venue-owned ticketing operation, starting Sunday.
The Warfield and Regency Ballroom, venues owned and operated by sports and entertainment presenter AEG, will begin using AEG’s new service, axs Ticketing. The service is designed to provide a better ticket-purchasing process.
“It’s a more seamless experience for the consumer,” said Todd Sims, vice president of digital at AEG. “They can transact at The Warfield’s website without going to a middleman.”
As far as the consumer experience, one less website will be visited and all “convenience fees” will be presented up front.
“We won’t charge any extra fees for printing at home, and our fees are transparent so that consumers are not confused and don’t get hit at the end of the transaction with hidden fees,” Sims said.
Currently, Ticketmaster does not list convenience charges until the number of tickets has been chosen and the customer is ready to pay for the order.
“The look and feel of the online experience will be Warfield throughout,” Sims said. “They will transact on a Warfield-feeling website.”
The first day of San Francisco sales via axs Ticketing will be Sunday, for Woody Allen’s New Orleans Jazz Band at the Regency.
The new ticketing setup resembles that of Slim’s and the Great American Music Hall, which use a company called Inticketing that allows a venue to sell tickets online without changing their user interface or venue branding.
AEG shares the same owners as Clarity Media, which oversees The San Francisco Examiner.
