San Francisco police gang task force investigating Bayview shooting

The San Francisco police gang task force is investigating a shooting in the Bayview Tuesday that injured a 23-year-old man.

Gunfire erupted after a spat between two groups at around 10 p.m. on the unit block of Double Rock Street, in the housing projects near Candlestick Park, police said.

The victim was shot several times in the torso, police at Bayview Station said. He was rushed to San Francisco General Hospital.

He is expected to survive, police spokesman Officer Albie Esparza said.

A rifle located near the scene may have been “associated with the victim,” police said.

There has been no arrest, but police said they’ve interviewed “numerous witnesses” and secured evidence at the scene.

It wasn’t the only time this summer that violence between gangs in southeast San Francisco erupted. During Pride Weekend in San Francisco, a gang-related shooting at Market and Seventh streets injured five people, including four innocent bystanders.
