San Francisco loses in Pony League tournament

LOS ALAMITOS -- A rough start cost the San Francisco All-Stars in the first game of the Pony League Mustang West Zone baseball tournament Thursday.

The 10-and-under team surrendered seven runs in the first inning and lost to Fountain Valley 11-3. San Francisco will play Spokane, Wash., in an elimination game today.

Last year as a 9-and-under team, San Francisco lost in the title game to Los Alamitos, which beat Spokane 11-3 Thursday, spoiling a potential rematch.

San Francisco's starting pitcher was removed after just five batters. He hit three batters, walked one and struck out another before being relieved.

The highlight for San Francisco was Chalom Rosenberg, who had a run-scoring triple. He also pitched, recording the final three outs.
