San Francisco is making good on its commitment to being green.

The City has launched SF Approved — an online catalogue of environmentally green products for city staffers and residents to peruse so they can be good environmental stewards.

The Department of Environment created the list after considering product ingredients, the recycled content of certain products and many other factors, before creating its one-stop shop of more than 1,000 items listed, including refillable white board markers, keyboard dusters with no green-house gases and rechargeable batteries.

The new website is in response to legislation passed by the Board of Supervisors in 2005 requiring that all city department purchasers adhere to an approved list of environmentally preferable, or “green,” products.
