Local motorists are continuing to get hammered at the gas pump, with fuel prices rising 52 cents in the past month in San Francisco.

A gallon of gas now goes for $4.43 on average, according to the latest reports from AAA. That’s seven cents more than the state average and 62 cents more than the national average.

But San Franciscans aren’t the only ones feeling the sudden surge in fuel costs. Average statewide gas prices went up 51 cents in the past month, and Bay Area prices went up 50 cents during the same time period.

However, there might be relief in sight, said Matt Skryja, a spokesman for AAA. An economic slowdown in China and easing tensions with Iran have calmed international markets, causing oil prices to drop recently, Skryja said.
