Scott Franklin Manning, Redwood City native and co-founder of CSA California — which links sustainable food growers to their communities — will kick off his Grateful Dance Virtual DJ Tour at S.F.’s Wish Bar and Lounge at
9 p.m. today.
What is the goal for this event? The goal is very clear. It’s to create awareness about the importance of local sustainable agriculture. Part of the proceeds are going to actually go towards CSACalifornia.org, which is helping raise money for school gardens, and the other half is going towards purchasing local, sustainably grown produce to bring to the peaceful protesters in San Francisco.
How did you get into sustainable food? To be quite honest, it was Jerry Garcia’s wife, Deborah Koons Garcia. She wrote, produced and directed a film called “The Future of Food.” And when I went to go see that in Tiburon about 10 years ago, I met her and it changed my outlook on food overnight.
How did you come up with your DJ name, Selekta Obadayo? It’s my house-music debut as a DJ. And my name, it’s how a 5-year-old would say “over there.” It’s like ... “Where’s the DJ?” “He’s Obadayo.”
