Rebeckah Collard, the Bay Area ambassador for Bright Pink, a national nonprofit that exclusively focuses on the prevention and early detection of breast and ovarian cancer, will be hosting the cocktail fundraiser VIPink on Oct. 13 at Infusion Lounge.
What is the goal behind Bright Pink? Our main goal is to always raise awareness not only in young women but also in our community. We want to let everybody know what Bright Pink is and what we stand for.
How important is it to raise awareness about these cancers? To me, it’s the most important thing that I deal with ... day in and day out. I have a very deep connection with Bright Pink. My grandmother passed from ovarian and my aunt passed from breast cancer. And myself, I actually tested positive for the breast and ovarian cancer gene.
Tell us about the Pink Pal program. That’s when Bright Pink sets you up with another girl somewhere in the world that has a similar situation, and you become a pen pal with. That’s how I started. She offered an immense amount of support to me in dealing with my own journey.
