The robbery suspect who barricaded himself into a residence in the Mission on Wednesday before being apprehended by police was identified as 25-year-old Candido Rivas of San Francisco, police Officer Albie Esparza said.

Rivas is alleged to have robbed a person at gunpoint in the area of 24th and Florida streets some time before 4:40 p.m. After the robbery, Rivas allegedly ran into a residence in the area of 23rd and Shotwell streets, Esparza said.

The victim reportedly saw which residence the suspect fled to and told police. When police arrived, they shut down streets in the area and began negotiations to get Rivas to surrender to police. SWAT police as well as the hostage negotiating team were on hand, although police said there were no hostages or shots fired from the residence.

The residence turned out to be Rivas' home and police were able to take him into custody about 8:42 p.m., Esparza said.

He was booked into jail on charges of robbery, assault with a deadly weapon, parole violation, resisting arrest, gang enhancement and being a felon in possession of a firearm.
