Redwood City man killed in big rig accident on Highway 92

A 68-year-old Redwood City man was killed Wednesday afternoon after his vehicle crossed a highway line and crashed in to a big rig in San Mateo County.

The victim, whose name was not released, was driving a Chevrolet Blazer west on Highway 92, according to California Highway Patrol Officer Art Montiel.

Around 2:15 p.m. the driver drifted across the double yellow line of the two-lane highway just east of Skylawn Memorial Park Cemetery and struck the trailer of the big rig traveling east.

Montiel said the highway was closed for roughly 90 minutes while emergency crews worked to extricate the man from the vehicle.

Though life flight was called to the scene, the man died before being transported to the hospital, Montiel said.

The crash is still under investigation, but according to Montiel, it appears the driver of the Blazer is at fault because he crossed the line.
