Red Carpet: Where style, sustainability meet

‘Gorgeous and Green’: Global Green’s fifth annual gala at the W San Francisco hotel last week featured cocktails, dinner and an “eco” fashion show. The goal of the premier lifestyle event was to expand the perception of what it means to be sustainable without sacrificing style. Event co-chairs were Zem Joaquin and Nadine Weil; vice-chairs were Christopher and Amber Marie Bently.

Athletes come out for kids

‘Holiday Heroes’: The Wender Weis Foundation for Children — which through the years has supported underprivileged children with a Halloween gathering — presented a holiday party this year. Held last week at the Golden Gate Club in the Presidio, the event allowed kids and families to meet big-time athletes and have fun in a game-filled winter wonderland. U.S. Olympic skater Kristi Yamaguchi and her husband, hockey great Bret Hedican, hosted the event.

‘Jingle & Mingle’: Exquisite holiday-themed artworks by dozens of designers were the main event at Children of Shelters’ 2009 Designer Wreath Auction, held Dec. 3 at the Presidio Officers’ Club. Proceeds benefited Children of Shelters, a nonprofit group working to meet the needs of children living in family shelters.
