Rec and Park improving Web site

It’s somewhat official; the Recreation and Park Department is tentatively on its way to penetrating the 21st century.

All year, Rec and Park has been working to update its Web sites so it is easier for everyone -- employees and the people who like recreation -- to process permits and arrangements instead of having to haul through an antiquated, pen-in-hand system.
And the main site is still ironing out some kinks.

However, now you can sign up for all recreational courses -- aquatics, bingo, computer skills, etc. -- at www.sfreconline.org for the first time ever.

Before December, you at the very least had to take a trip to McLaren Lodge in Golden Gate Park to set up an online account, if you didn’t want to visit it every time you wanted to get penciled in.

Now you can do it all online, sans lodge.
