Ranch hand accused of attacking woman, puppy set to appear

The Pescadero ranch hand accused of force-feeding water to his 67-year-old employer and her puppy while reportedly under the influence of methamphetamine is expected back in court today for a preliminary hearing.

Jorge Ruiz Martinez, 23, was found by the family matriarch in the main house of the Cloverdale Road ranch allegedly “holding the puppy and forcing water down its throat with a water bottle.”

After the woman reportedly reclaimed her puppy, Martinez “dragged her into the kitchen and held her head near a sink and started forcing water down her throat,” said San Mateo County District Attorney Steve Wagstaffe.

The woman wasn’t seriously injured and Martinez was later located in a nearby field where he was found in possession of methamphetamine, Wagstaffe said.

Dexter Oliver, who has three prior domestic violence convictions involving two other women, according to prosecutors, is facing an attempted murder charge among the nearly dozen charges against him.

On Jan. 6, police said, the couple had a fight after Oliver refused to carry Starr Lamare’s clothes to a laundromat. He allegedly filled two empty bottles of Pedialyte with gasoline, then splashed them on Lamare and set her ablaze. Police found her severely burned at Hollister Avenue and Jennings Street, although she survived.
