Raising the "Captain Al" Tug Boat from the Oakland Estuary

The EPA, in conjunction with CalRecycle and the Coast Guard, removed a 105-foot tug boat from the Oakland Estuary on Monday as part of a larger EPA action to remove a total of four sunken vessels from the estuary. The EPA's efforts aim to reduce the release of hazardous substances into the environment from the vessels. The action required two cranes on barges to lift the vessel before divers could place high capacity pumps that completely emptied the hull of water.
