Rail-replacement project wrapping up

While the much-ballyhooed service changes for Muni will kick off Saturday, another important project, the light-rail replacement on the N-Judah line, is set to wrap up this weekend.

Construction crews will be at the intersections of Judah Street and 19th Avenue and Judah Street and Sunset Boulevard starting at 8 p.m. Friday, with work lasting until 4 a.m. Monday. This will be the third and final weekend on construction at the sites.

The intersection of Judah Street and 19th Avenue will be completely closed to automobile traffic, and the intersection at Judah Street and Sunset Boulevard will be partially closed. Light-rail service on the N-Judah line will be replaced by bus shuttles from Church and Duboce streets to the western terminus at Ocean Beach.

The weekend work will wrap up the first stage of an $18 million project to replace the aging infrastructure of Muni’s western railway lines. Work on the L-Taraval and J-Church lines is expected to begin early next year.
