Power outage affects Castro Muni station, roughly 5,200 households

The Castro Muni station was closed for roughly an hour Tuesday afternoon following a power outage that is still affecting thousands of households.

The power outage that affected roughly 5,200 households in the Duboce Triangle and Lower Haight neighborhoods occurred around 2:30 p.m., according to PG&E spokesman Joe Molica. It was a result of an underground cable that failed.

Molica said the portion that connects two wires failed to do its job. Company investigators will look at that portion to find out why it failed.

More than one hour after the outage, power was restored to 2,900 customers including the Castro Muni Station, which had to close.

Power was restored to all customers by 5 p.m.
