Pot stash surprise bowls over homeowner

Talk about a high return for a home investment.

A woman who recently purchased a property in Visitacion Valley got more than she bargained for Friday when she entered the property and discovered an illegal marijuana-growing operation, police said.

The homeowner called police to the house in the 300 block of Wilde Avenue about 1:10 p.m. Cops collected 13 burlap sacks full of marijuana, along with lights and ballasts, police at the Ingleside station said. The electrical system also had been illegally wired, police said.

After she purchased the home, the homeowner posted a 48-hour notice requesting the occupants to contact her. When no response was received, the woman returned to the home to have the locks changed, police said. A locksmith allowed her to enter.

She apparently called police as soon as she saw what had been occurring inside the home. No arrests had been made as of Tuesday, police said.
