Police still seeking suspects in 2010 homicide of Huan Chen

Police are still seeking answers to the senseless murder of an elderly man in the Bayview in 2010.

Huan Chen, 83, of San Francisco was violently beaten by a group of male juveniles Jan. 24 while he was walking home on Oakdale Avenue near Third Street about 6 p.m., police said. He had reportedly just gotten off the Muni T-Third line.

The unknown juveniles reportedly hit him in the back of the head, knocking him to the ground, where his head then struck the sidewalk. The juveniles left the scene leaving Chen bleeding and disoriented, police said.

Chen was hospitalized and succumbed to his injuries two months later, on March 19.

There is a $100,000 reward leading to the arrest and conviction of the suspect in this case, offered by the Mayor's Office.

Anyone with information on the attack is encouraged to call police at (415) 575-4444 or by text at TIP411 with "SFPD" at the beginning of the message or to call Inspector Mike Morley at (415) 553-1145.

The incident at the time raised fears there was tension between the Asian-American and African-American communities.

An Asian woman had been attacked in March of 2010 at that same Muni platform by five boys, one of whom threw her onto the tracks. She survived the encounter and an arrest was made.
