Police are on the hunt for an armed man who attempted to carjack a vehicle in the Richmond early Monday morning, police Officer Gordon Shyy said.

The suspect confronted the victim at 12th Avenue and Clement Street about 1:40 a.m. and demanded the keys to the victim's vehicle, Shyy said. When the victim did not comply right away, the suspect fired his gun into the air and fled.

He was described as a 5-foot-7 man with dark hair and dark clothing, Shyy said. He was last seen walking toward Park Presidio Boulevard.

Police searched the area, but the suspect has not been located.
