A man accused of striking an acquaintance with a sledge hammer before stealing his car was arrested Sunday by San Mateo police.

Aaron Hanna, 26, of Pleasanton, was reportedly in the car Sunday with the 30-year-old victim from San Bruno when the car overheated, police said. As the victim was tending to the car, Hanna is alleged to have struck him with a sledge hammer before taking off in the victim's black Honda Accord.

About 5:30 p.m., Hanna and the Honda were reportedly located at San Bruno Avenue and Skyline Boulevard in San Bruno and he was arrested without incident.

He was booked into San Mateo County Jail on charges of carjacking, assault with a deadly weapon and auto theft.

The victim's injury was reportedly not life threatening, police said. He made contact with police at a Chevron gas station in the 800 block of North Delaware Street just before 3 p.m.
