A year’s worth of plans are afoot to celebrate the 75th Anniversary of the Bay Bridge.

Starting this month, bridge officials will unveil a series of celebrations of the span, which opened to traffic Nov. 12, 1936.

One the events is the unveiling of the Bay Lights Project, an illuminated sculpture designed by artist Leo Villareal featuring 30,000 LED lights.

Also, “Approach, Transition, Touchdown: The San Francisco–Oakland Bay Bridge Project,” an art exhibit developed by Amanda Hughen and Jennifer Starkweather, is currently on display at the Electric Works Art Gallery in San Francisco as part of the span’s 75th birthday.

More events to honor the Bay Bridge will be announced in the coming weeks. Updates, including a pictorial timeline of the span, will be available at the bridge’s website.

The celebration of the 75th anniversary will last until next November.
