Plan to restore convention funds up for vote

District 5 supervisor Ross Mirkarimi’s proposal to restore some $1 million in hotel tax revenue to The City’s Convention Facilities Department comes before the Board of Supervisors’ Budget and Finance Committee Wednesday.

Money released under the ordinance, cosponsored by Supervisor John Avalos, would help pay for The City’s cost of running conventions, conferences and tradeshows, which are a major revenue source for San Francisco.

Last month the director of the Convention Facilities Department, John Noguchi, warned the funds were essential to maintaining the Moscone Center.
