PHOTOS: Final piece of Bay Bridge suspension bridge deck installed 

The final piece of the new Bay Bridge suspension bridge was installed Friday.

Local dignitaries attened the installation of the final piece of the self-anchored suspension bridge span. The span, which has a total length of 2,047 feet, is the longest span of its kind in the world, according to Caltrains.

The new eastern section of the Bay Bridge is replacing the span between Yerba Buena island and Oakland. The project will cost $6.3 billion.

The project is expected to be finished in 2013.
