Burlingame Vice Mayor Terry Nagel is one of several community members bringing the seventh annual Pet Parade to Burlingame on Saturday at 10 a.m. For more information visit: www.burlingamepetparade.com.
How was this parade started? We were talking one day and decided it would be fun to have an event where no one had their hands out begging for money, but just have something fun to bring people together in the spirit of community.
What’s new this year? We are having a best pet trick award for the first time, so we’re eager to see what turns up with that, as well as the most unusual pet category. Some merchants are doing unusual things. The Broadway Grill is doing a dine with your dog event with special menus for both humans and for dogs.
What are some examples of unusual pets from years past? One year we had a Dalmatian that not only had black spots but also pink, yellow, and blue spots. We’ve had two alpacas, one dressed as a police officer and one as a Rastafarian complete with dreadlocks. All pets are welcome and those without pets are encouraged to bring their stuffed animals. —
