Perry Farrell lets new Jane’s Addiction track slip

To Perry Farrell, it seemed like the gentlemanly thing to do.

A week ago, the Jane’s Addiction frontman was in Chile, appearing on Radio Futuro’s hip “La Ley D Rock” program, ostensibly to promote the latest incarnation of his annual music festival, Lollapalooza Chile.

But instead he wound up leaking “End To The Lies,” a song from the band’s first album in eight years, “The Great Escape Artist,” coming this August on Capitol. Which, of course, became an instant viral hit.

So he’s done the honorable thing and put it up on his website as a free download.

A whole generation of kids will probably scratch their collective noggin and mutter “Perry who? Jane’s whatnow?” But — with cohorts Dave Navarro on guitar, Stephen Perkins on drums, and Chris Cheney on bass — Farrell is back, 25 years after he first started, to remind everyone of his legacy, not just as a forward-thinking alt-rocker, but as one of America’s first post-Woodstock festival-organizing visionaries.

“The Great Escape Artist” is nearing completion, and is in the capable production paws of Rich Costey and TV On The Radio’s omnipresent Dave Sitek. Stay tuned for updates.
