Peninsula beachgoers report car burglaries

Several Peninsula beachgoers reported car burglaries Tuesday, including a surfer who was robbed of his keys and pants while he was riding waves, sheriff’s deputies said.

At least three window-smash burglaries were reported along the coast between 5 p.m. and 7 p.m., two near Half Moon Bay and another farther south, according to the San Mateo Count Sheriff’s Office.

The surfer said he parked his car at Ano Nuevo State Beach and went surfing. When he returned he found the passenger window broken and his cellphone, car keys, wallet and pants gone, deputies said.

Earlier, deputies were called about two burglaries that happened around the same time near the Cowell Purisima Trail. One person lost an estimated $685 worth of loot. Another said her purse was taken. Within two hours, her credit cards were used at two different locations, deputies said.
