Pacifica schools closed due to tsunami warning

All Pacifica schools are closed Friday due to the tsunami warning, school district officials announced.

The district office and its departments are also closed, according to the Pacifica School District.

Surges of water could hit the Bay Area due to an 8.9-magnitude earthquake that struck Thursday night off the coast of Japan, causing a tsunami that killed hundreds of people.

Waves traveling across the Pacific Ocean from the tsunami site arrived in the Bay Area just before 8 a.m. Friday.
