Over the line: Pat-down leaves cancer survivor soaked in urine

WHO:  Tom Sawyer, a bladder-cancer survivor from the Detroit area, was left humiliated — and wet — after a Transportation Security Administration pat-down loosened his urostomy bag.

WHAT HAPPENED: Sawyer has had to wear an external pouch to collect his urine after he had surgery for bladder cancer three years ago. When he was pulled out of line for screening and taken to a room for a pat-down, two male TSA agents handled him so roughly that his urostomy bag fell off and he wound up with his urine soaking through his pants and running down his leg.

INSULT TO INJURY: Sawyer tried three times to explain his medical condition to the agents. Each time, they cut him off and said, “We don’t need to know that.” Because he had to hurry to make his flight after the delay, Sawyer was not able to clean himself up.
