October hearing for Golden Gate Bridge District ferry service changes

The Golden Gate Bridge District has scheduled a public hearing for October related to proposed scheduling and fare changes on its ferry service.

The hearing, approved Friday by the bridge district Board of Directors, will take place on Oct. 7 and will focus on service reductions on the agency’s least-traveled ferries. The scheduling changes will improve operational efficiency and generate cost-savings for the district, which is facing a five-year $132 million shortfall.

The hearing will also discuss proposed reductions to the frequent rider’s discount cards. Currently, frequent passengers taking the Sausalito ferry receive a 46 percent monthly discount, and riders on the Larkspur ferry have a 38 percent discount. Under the new fare structure the monthly discount would be 30 percent.

The hearing is scheduled for 9:30 a.m. on Oct. 7 at the Bridge District’s main office.
