An Oakland resident was arrested Wednesday in connection with a shooting in the Bayview district that left two victims in critical condition, police Officer Gordon Shyy said Thursday.

Javon Coggins, 38, is accused of assault with a deadly weapon, shooting into an occupied vehicle and being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm, Shyy said. No mugshot will be released at this time as other witnesses are being interviewed.

The two victims, a 46-year-old woman and a 36-year-old man, were shot in the area of Revere Avenue and Jennings Street about 4:10 p.m. Wednesday, police said. Original reports said several men jumped out of an unknown vehicle and opened fire on the victims. They were rushed to the hospital and remain in life-threatening condition, Shyy said.

About 6:40 p.m. that day, officers located a vehicle at Potrero Avenue and 17th Street that matched witnesses' description, Shyy said. Three men, including Coggins, were in the gold Dodge pickup. Police took all three into custody and a handgun was found nearby.

The two other men, a 34-year-old and 47-year-old, were released after identification, Shyy said. It is unknown if the shooting was gang-related.

Anyone with further information on this case can call police at (415) 575-4444 or text at TIP411 with SFPD at the beginning of the message.
