North Beach fire displaces up to 30 residents

  • A fire in the North Beach neighborhood displaced as many as 30 residents.
As many as 30 residents were displaced by a one-alarm apartment fire in The City’s North Beach neighborhood Sunday morning, a Fire Department dispatcher said.

The fire was reported in a three-story building at 1656 Powell St. near Union Street about 9:30 a.m., the dispatcher said.

Units quickly responded and the fire was under control about 10:10 a.m., the dispatcher said. No injuries were reported.

The blaze and water damage rendered at least 12 units uninhabitable. The cause of the fire was under investigation Sunday.
